Design Trend: New Vintage

Take the nuances of old world photography and traditional film printing, and project them through new digital means and mediums.
Everything from silver gelatin hand toned prints to Polaroid shots can
be scanned, digitized and reinvented as wall installations. Comb through the catalogues of the George Eastman House 19th century photography collections and apply what you find to the design of today. New Vintage is about taking elements of old world artistry such as gilding, chinoiserie, Grotesques and even hand drawn comic illustrations, and converting them into the new world of digital reproduction and development. It’s about taking what is old and
making it new again.

Poll Question:
Featured Farmboy Artist: Maria Tarasoff

Maria Tarasoff has been taking abstract photos ever since her dad
gave her a Brownie box camera; she couldn't figure out how to look
into it, so she didn't. After completing a BFA she was invited by legendary photographer Michel Campeau to Montreal for a two week residency. After that all hell broke loose!
In 2006, she joined the FBFA posse after seeing some of their
installed work on the internet. She continues to provide photos
that are sensual, abstract and energetic. "I love all the textures
surrounding me, flaking paint and scratched surfaces are like diary entries, providing evidence of the passage of time."
When not traveling through Central America she hangs her boots in Victoria, BC.

Farmboy Staff Picks: Fatima Travassos

We asked Farmhand Fatima Travassos, one of our designers here at Farmboy, to choose one of her favourite images from our Stockyard collection and tell us what she likes about it.
Who is the artist?
Sia Aryai, SSA.300.00004
Why do you like it?
Sia Aryai’s photo resonates with me because it feels like it should
be a still from a Marilyn Manson video starring pretty Fiona Apple.
It would be directed by Canadian artist, Floria Sigismondi who has
a taste for romantic Victorian macabre as do I.
Couldn't have said it better ourselves! Thanks Fatima!
As always, The Stockyard features some of the latest stunning
