Design Trend: ScaleEclectic

ScaleEclectic is about mix and match, pattern on pattern, a collision between the traditional use of materials and colours used in a contemporary way.

This trend utilizes multiple pattern styles and types, and combines them in unique and often visually striking applications. Artwork developed is a more refined or “considered” process rather than a pure cacophony of colour, pattern, line and form. The interplay of both scale and texture is important. We see very large patterns, motifs and graphics working with tight compositions, creating multidimensional relief. This trend speaks to the layers of pattern used in fabrics, wall tapestries, and graphics designed for wallpaper and wall mural installations.

ScaleEclectic inspired imagery can be applied to any Farmboy medium. Custom graphics and illustrations can be designed for canvas, framed prints, META, LUMA, MIRADA and BADA BOX among others. Visit our website to check out more exclusive Mediums.

Featured Medium • Architectural Elements

Looking for an alternative to two dimensional art? Architectural Elements (AE) were developed specifically for environments where artwork is required to enhance a space beyond a 2D application. AE are multi-medium sculptural pieces created specifically for each space. A favourite among our design-conscious clients, AE are for those who seek that special something beyond traditional art mediums.

Pictured above is the W Chicago - City Center hotel, which recently reopened after a multi-million dollar renovation. All of the hotel’s 172 guestrooms and suites, as well as the W Living Room have seen a revamp. The property was the first W hotel to open in the city in 2001. The Architectural Elements pictured above the bed were custom designed by Farmboy.

Poll Question:

Summertime at Farmboy

Vancouver is a city with four distinct seasons. While we love winter and getting out in the snow, like all Vancouverites we relish the chance to be in the sun once summer finally hits! At Farmboy summer means Friday afternoons on our office rooftop, enjoying a beverage with the team and celebrating the end of another successful week. Come by and enjoy a Friday afternoon with us when you’re in the area (give us a call first so we can be sure to stock up the fridge!)

Farmboy Featured Artist • Michael Edmondson

featured artist

A film school graduate and award winning filmmaker, Michael studied cinematography and intended to have a career in stop motion animation. That is, until a friend opened an art gallery in 2005 and invited Michael to show his "fun hobby" work. Michael has been a Farmboy Fine Arts artist since 2005 when Tim McCool stumbled across his photo blog. Michael shares his time between photography and his small animation studio Float On Films.

"When I was a kid growing up in Squamish I'd lie in bed at night and try to imagine undiscovered colours. I ran wild and barefoot in the forest surrounding my house all summer. I'd catch frogs for my legally blind cousin. He'd hold them just a couple inches from his face to see them clearly. Our grandfather was colourblind too so from an early age I was fascinated by how we see and how we experience sight. The photographs I take are almost always all about the details of things. I guess I was inspired by my cousin. I want to get up close. I want to know how things work. There is a universe of complexity in the structures and textures of things that we don't see."

Michael lives in Vancouver with his wife and two wimpy little dogs.

Farmboy Staff Picks: Byron Davis

We asked Farmhand Byron Davis, our controller here at Farmboy, to choose one of his favourite images from our Stockyard collection and tell us what he likes about it.

Who is the artist?
Brian Lee, BFL.200.00010

Where is it?

White Falls, enroute to Berg Lake on Mt. Robson in British Columbia

Why do you like it?
I love the mountains, and this shot captures the ruggedness and the beauty. Throw in the waterfall and you can imagine the power inherent in it...
