Design Trend: ecoLUXE

At Farmboy we’re always looking ahead, not only forecasting trends, but cultivating them through our designs. One of the trends we are mindful of this year is ecoLUXE, a combination of ecology and
luxury inspired by rural life. ecoLUXE incorporates community and collaboration, a sense of craft, and natural elements and textures. Related photographic imagery is lush with themes of water, wind, greens, flowers and fields. We also like to create visual representations of a green initiative through “hand picked” drawings. Patterns of doilies or rope can be converted into wall graphics, and hand drawn elements converted into prints, canvas, LUMA, or VIDRO installations. The trend is to turn away from mass production and
move towards items that have a story to tell, and that’s what we do well at Farmboy.

If you are local, or happen to be in beautiful Vancouver we encourage you to come by Farmboy and see who’s showing. We’ll keep you posted on the development and our featured artists.

Farmboy Featured Artist • Melissa Mercier

featured artist

This month’s featured Farmboy artist is Melissa Mercier, a fine art photographer based in Vancouver, Canada. After a move from her native Quebec via Toronto, Melissa studied photography at Vancouver's Langara College and worked under renowned commercial photographer Anthony Redpath.

Often contrasting organic and inanimate subjects, she challenges the viewer to find beauty in the seemingly ordinary and to look deeper into their surrounding world.

Her work is being used by industry leaders Phase One Cameras and Capture One Software in their 2009 advertising campaigns as a sample of excellence. Her work has been used in a number of big-name hotels including Four Points, Sheraton, Wynn and Four Seasons. To see more of Melissa’s work visit our image Stockyard at:
